Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Katy Evans grew up as the oldest of four siblings. She graduated from Creekside High School in 2013 before attending Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science in 2016. Her background includes work in education, zookeeping at Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas, and extensive hands-on experience with livestock; Katy raises both cattle and horses. She continued her education at the University of Florida, earning a master’s degree in forensic science and wildlife conservation in 2026. Katy joined the Ellen Trout Zoo in the fall of 2025 as a swing keeper, bringing with her a diverse background in animal care, education, and conservation.

Favorite Color: Red

Little Known Fact: I really enjoy photography, especially wildlife and landscape.

Favorite Memory: Photographing wild orcas and Denali in Alaska, bottle raising calves, and the very first time I got to be up close with a rhino.

Toughest Challenge: It's really hard to say goodbye to the animals we love and work with, whether they're transferring to a new facility or at the end of their lives.
